From Monday 20 th to Friday 24 th April Salisbury welcomed a group of French visitors
from our twin town Saintes in Charente Maritime. The Mayor, Councillor John Wells,
President of the Salisbury-Saintes Twinning Association, welcomed them to the
Guildhall, together with Councillor Jenny Bolwell and Guildhall staff. They were
taken on a full tour of the building and enjoyed warm hospitality.
During their few days with us they visited Mottisfont Abbey, had a day in Bath, visited
Stonehenge and explored the Cathedral and the city. A highlight for many of them
was seeing the Magna Carta.
They were joined by members of the Association, the Mayor and his wife, councillors
and past mayors for a farewell evening at the New Inn.
With a visit to Furzey Gardens en route to their return ferry at Portsmouth the group
organiser Marie-Claude Daguerre declared that the trip had been an outstanding
success and that they were overwhelmed by the welcome they received.
